Most companies face a few unique or unusual challenges. The things that set it apart from its competitors are often the things that are difficult to manage internally. How should companies meet these challenges? Often the choice is between changing business practices or changing management software.

For those who are not willing to bend to the requirements of their accounting software, we offer customizable accounting systems and the expertise to tailor these systems to meet your requirements.

Custom Accounting Modifications

Why customize commercial accounting software? The answer is simple: To become more profitable. When done correctly, customized accounting software lets you run your business more efficiently and lets you exploit new opportunities unattainable without built-to-suit modifications.

Customized accounting software is, for many, the ideal middle ground between inexpensive, “canned” systems (such as Quickbooks) and expensive, industry-specific applications. With customized accounting software, you get the benefits of a robust, commercially-developed system for core functions and a small suite of modifications to handle the unusual things that set your business apart. This combination of standard software and client-specific modifications gives the most value at the lowest cost.

Lefkowitz Systems listens carefully to your business objectives and requirements. Our goal is to incorporate your unique business flow into your accounting system while maintaining proper management and reporting procedures.

Here are some examples:

  •  Client B buys and sells petroleum products. What sets his business apart? Rapidly fluctuating costs and prices. Inventory costs change weekly, sometimes daily and prices are a function of costs. Changing costs and prices manually is too slow and too labor intensive. A simple customization to import new costs, as they are published by vendors, updates costs and prices as they occur, ensuring our client and his customers get and give accurate, market prices.
  • Client C sells gem stones. Gem stones are ordered by the piece but sold by the carat weight (CT) and the carat weight varies from stone to stone. Most accounting systems sell things one way, piece or carat weight, but not both. We added a second unit of measure to the order entry and invoice screens of Client C’s source code accounting system. Now his staff can enter orders by the piece and bill the orders by carat weight.
  • Client M repairs mechanical equipment. Service order writers frequently misquote work orders, neglecting to include sufficient time and required parts for the job. Client M had to absorb the cost of these errors. The solution we created is a search engine that finds similar, historical jobs based on the make, model and year of the equipment receiving a repair and a tool to copy the details of similar historical jobs to new orders. In this way, accurate quotes are written ensuring that Client M bills each job correctly and profitably.

In each of these engagements, our client chose a standard, source code accounting system and added small customizations to handle their special requirements. For a modest cost, they realized tremendous value.
