(Another in an occasional series on Spire for SBT VisionPoint, SBT Pro Series, ACCPAC Pro and Sage Pro ERP users)

Do you know your SBT Pro Series, ACCPAC Pro and Sage Pro ERP system and your SBT VisionPoint system comes with an executive dashboard? It is the Business Status Report and, surprisingly, many Pro and VisionPoint users do not know it exists.

Here is the Sage Pro 2011 Business Status Report.

The Business Status Report is a single screen in which one sees key performance indicators (“KPIs” for short). A KPI is a statistic or graphic that quickly conveys key business information such as:

  • How much money you are owed
  • How much you owe
  • Your current order backlog
  • Your gross profit (or loss) this month and this year
  • The value of your inventory
  • Open POs
  • Total cash on hand
  • Your future cash forecast (after everything above comes in and goes out)

There is more, but these are the stats most users want to see.

Most new accounting systems come with executive dashboards. Spire, the system I recommend, does not and this was, until recently, a reason to reject a Spire upgrade.

But now we have one, offered by third-party Spire developer NS Computer Consultants. It is very nice and I recommend it.

Here is a screen shot of the NS dashboard for Spire:

And here is a live copy of the Spire Executive Dashboard running against a live copy of Spire. Take a look.

The NS dashboard includes all that you got in your Sage/ACCPAC/SBT Business Status Report and a lot more. It is a browser-based application which means the jet-setting executive can see her business quickly from anywhere, not just when in the office.

My existing Spire users like the NS dashboard. Cost is not zero (currently $2500) but not so bad when compared to other, pricey ERP dashboards. If you need a dashboard, the price is right. If you do not need a dashboard, $0 is a good price. NS will add KPIs to your dashboard for modest, additional fees.

Now we have an excellent executive dashboard for Spire which means you, the boss, has one fewer reason to keep SBT, ACCPAC or Sage Pro or SBT VisionPoint.
